Plans Finalized

Plans have been finalized and posted on the website.  Visit the website at www.1971bhs.com and click on Reunions.  We hope you will make plans to attend the Reunion/Get Together Saturday, July 15, 2006.  Happy hour starts at 5 PM at the Holiday Inn on Route 460 in Bluefield.  Dinner follows at 6:30 PM.

Accommodations

Twenty rooms are blocked off at The Holiday Inn (304) 325-6170 for anyone who would like to stay at the Holiday Inn. The rooms are available for Friday and/or Saturday night. Regular cost is $95, but our rate is only $80 per night. Ask for "Bluefield High School Class of '71" for that rate. They will hold those rooms until June 15th, and then they get put back into the regular pool of rooms. Any room reserved can be cancelled by July 14th without any fees charged, so it would be better for someone to get the room and cancel later than to wait until the last minute and not get a room.

Happy Hour and Social Time

Happy hour is from 5:00 till 6:30 and dinner starts at 6:30.  Social time is the time after dinner until everyone leaves.  An Open bar will be available. We can stay in the room as long as we want up until 1:00 am. We can also go into Kelsey's Bar if we want at no charge after we eat. Or we can go back and forth. That way if some people want to chat in a quiet room they can stay, and if they want to dance or hear loud music, they can go into Kelsey's. There is supposed to be a live band, but that is not verified yet. The only rule is that you can't carry any drink from one place to another; the drink must stay in the room it comes from.  The bar tender for our room will be there as long as we want.

If you are unable to attend the dinner, you are welcome to attend any other portion of the weekend at no cost to you, (except the breakfast). You can come to the happy hour and social without obligation to pay for the dinner.

Dinner 

For the menu we have roast beef and teriyaki chicken as the two meats, a variety of veggies, tea and soft drinks, full tossed salad bar, and banana pudding and chocolate cake for desert.  Also so, there will be a fruit and veggie tray available during happy hour.

Breakfast Sunday Morning July 16^th

The breakfast will be in a separate private room starting at 9AM and will include a 4-item buffet of scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, home fried potatoes, and a meat tray, which will be bacon and sausage, and includes drinks of your choice.  Please notice.  This is not included in the cost of the Reunion/Get Together. 

The cost for the breakfast is $9.95 per person and includes all taxes and gratuities. Breakfast can be purchased on the Reunions page with a credit card or at the door Sunday morning if you decide later you would like to attend.  If you do not  purchase the breakfast in advance please send me an email at amartin2@carolina.rr.com and let me know that you are planning on paying for breakfast Sunday morning.

Cost and ReservationsThe cost for Friday night’s dinner and get together is $24.75.  This includes the Dinner buffet, banquet room, bar tender and refreshments during happy hour, classmate booklet and miscellaneous expenses.  Since we need to give the Holiday Inn and accurate count of those planning on attending we need to have your payment by July 9^th.  You must cancel prior to July 9^th to receive a full refund. 

Payment Options

There are two ways to pay.  The first and preferred way is on the website.  You can use any major credit card to pay for the Reunion/Get Together.  On the web site go to the Reunions page and under the details of the weekend click on Add to Cart and complete the form. This will ensure that you have made a payment and a reservation to attend.

If you are not interested in using the web site you can pay by check.  Send a check for $24.75 for each person attending to the following address and include your email address for a confirmation sent to you after we receive the payment.

Special Thanks

We want to extend a special “thank you” to Betty (Anders) Lester.  Betty is employed by the Holiday Inn and with her help a lot of expenses and fees were waived.  This made the total cost of this year’s reunion/get together somewhat less expensive than it normally would have been without Betty’s help.

Music 

We are asking everyone who is planning on attending to send us the name of two of your favorite songs from the late 60’s to early 70’s.   If we get enough entries we will make some CD’s, not 8 track, to play during the social time.  If you happen to have any of these songs on your computer, you can also send me a copy via email to amartin2@carolina.rr.com.

Biography

Since this happens to be the 35^th year since our high school graduation I am requesting that everyone visit the web site and either update their biography or give a little information about you under in the biography section under the contact classmates section of the web page.  We are planning on having a classmate booklet available for everyone attending the reunion/get together.  If you have any questions or problems updating your biography email me at amartin2@carolina.rr.com.

Website

The web site for our class is www.1971bhs.com.  It is for everyone to use and I hope everyone will go to the site and see what’s there.  It was developed as a central site for those who are interested in finding out what happened to lost friends and a place where you can get in touch with these people.  I want to reassure everyone that your information is safe and information is not purposefully sold or shared.  It has been up and running for about two years and we have had over 8,000 hits on the web site. 

We still have quite a few classmates who are in the “missing” category.  Under the contact classmate area if you know where the “missing” classmate is, have them visit the website and supply their contact information.  It is our goal to find everyone. 

Contact information you supply is done so on a voluntary basic and will be held in strict confidence and used for official class purposes only (class reunion mailings, etc). You may enter as much or as little information as you choose. Under no circumstance will information you provide be given out or displayed without your consent. Only contact information you have elected to be made public will be displayed on our Contact Classmates page. I accept full responsibility for the protection of any contact information you supply.

If you haven’t done so, please keep your email current or give us a current email address.  Our biggest expense is postage for mailings to those classmates who have not given us their email addresses.

If you are unable to attend

If you are unable to attend, we hope that maybe you will make plans to attend another get together.  We realize that everyone is very busy and the time might not be right to come to the get together this year.  Our intention is to have a get together the third weekend of July every year.  This way if you can not make it one year maybe the next year, knowing in advance, you can make plans to attend.  Keep in mind you can always visit the web site and see pictures of what you missed.
