 Bluefield High School Class of 1971 - Latest News 06-02-2016 - The Class of ’71 Goes Downtown! If you live in Bluefield or have come home in the past 20 years, you know that the downtown of our growing up years has faded away. Like many small towns, our vibrant downtown where we shopped, went to the movies, and just hung out together has all but disappeared. But maybe not….. After our 40th reunion, we set out to find out more about who shared our concern for our hometown and learned about the work of the Bluefield Preservation Society. This group is working to restore the Granada Theatre, and actually operates The Blue Spoon Café as a business incubator to attract entrepreneurs to the downtown area. It’s working! Things are happening in the Commerce Street area! Eat lunch or dinner or listen to music at The Railyard. Have some BBQ at The Big Whiskey BBQ Co. Shop for local produce at Fantastic Fridays every Friday night in the summer months. Buy yarn or take a class at the Bluefield Yarn Company. Check out the local art and crafts at the Blue Mountain Mercantile. We’ve decided that the Class of ’71 can be part of the re-vitalization of downtown by being downtown July 15-17 for our 45th reunion. Downtown – not South Bluefield or Bluefield VA – Downtown. • Join us Friday evening July 15 (after you’ve checked out Fantastic Friday!) at the Historic Bank Lobby of the Commercial Bank for a casual welcome and get together. • Explore downtown on Saturday - take the walking tour of Historic Downtown Bluefield. You’ll be amazed at the beautiful architecture of buildings you’ve looked at all your life! • On Saturday July 16, we’ll have dinner upstairs at the Railyard catered by the Blue Spoon Café. Current student athletes at BHS will be our wait staff – another way we want to support Bluefield and BHS. • We have a few surprises and other activities planned – We think you’ll have a good time! We’ll be confirming details, sending out additional emails and updating the BHS Class of ’71 website in the next few weeks. Please put the weekend of July 15-17 on your calendar!
